Smoke Alarm Finally Stopped Chirping

Our smoke alarm kept chirping all night long, interrupting our sleep and driving us crazy. Initially, we just hit it down. We felt that wasn’t the best solution in case of a real fire. So we took the battery out and changed it. It worked for a while. Two days later the alarm began to chirp again. We took it down and realized that it was heavily covered with dust. The alarm is very close to the ceiling and I really don’t think about it when I’m cleaning. I took a dust cloth and cleaned it thoroughly. We haven’t had chirping since.
