How to Diagnose Genital Warts

February 18, 2010 on 6:10 am | By admin | In Health | Comments Off

Genital warts can be very tricky. It is sometimes hard to diagnose them. The diagnosis is usually made by a health care professional who examines the scrapings from the warts. Since they are small, examination is performed under a darkfield microscope. While under the microscope, a 5% solution of white vinegar is mixed to the scrapings. If the specimen turns white, it is an indication that the warts are caused by human papilloma virus (HPV), and that the patient has indeed contacted genital warts. Note: Doctors usually perform other tests to make sure that the wart is simply genital warts and to rule out cancer.
